چکیده

This article analyses the effect of noise and nonlinearity in optoelectronic phase-locked loops (OEPLLs). The OEPLL phase-locks a microwave oscillator on envelope optical pulse train from mode-locked laser (MLL). phase detector this type is called balanced (BOMPD) operates mixed electro-optical domain. main sources BOMPD, such as shot photodiodes, generation-recombination relative intensity laser, bias voltage applied to BOMPD. are discussed. nonlinear behavior BOMPD with respect field amplitude RF An that can lock harmonics interharmonics MLL repetition rate demonstrated. has an in-band below −150 dBc/Hz at 100-kHz offset frequency for carrier 10 GHz. level 10–20 dB better than state-of-the-art commercial synthesizers.

Balanced optical-microwave phase detectors for optoelectronic phase-locked loops.

A balanced optical-microwave phase detector for the extraction of low-jitter, high-power, and drift-free microwave signals from optical pulse trains is presented. The phase detection is based on electro-optic sampling with a differentially biased Sagnac loop. Because the timing information is transferred in the optical domain, the regenerated microwave signal is robust against drifts and photod...

Dual Phase Detector Based Delay Locked Loop for High Speed Applications

In this paper a new architecture for delay locked loops will be presented.  One of problems in phase-frequency detectors (PFD) is static phase offset or reset path delay. The proposed structure decreases the jitter resulted from PFD by switching two PFDs. In this new architecture, a conventional PFD is used before locking of DLL to decrease the amount of phase difference between input and outpu...

High Speed Delay-Locked Loop for Multiple Clock Phase Generation

In this paper, a high speed delay-locked loop (DLL) architecture ispresented which can be employed in high frequency applications. In order to design the new architecture, a new mixed structure is presented for phase detector (PD) and charge pump (CP) which canbe triggered by double edges of the input signals. In addition, the blind zone is removed due to the elimination of reset signal. Theref...

Balanced optical-microwave phase detector for sub-femtosecond optical-RF synchronization.

We demonstrate that balanced optical-microwave phase detectors (BOMPD) are capable of optical-RF synchronization with sub-femtosecond residual timing jitter for large-scale timing distribution systems. RF-to-optical synchronization is achieved with a long-term stability of < 1 fs RMS and < 7 fs pk-pk drift for over 10 hours and short-term stability of < 2 fs RMS jitter integrated from 1 Hz to 2...
